I bet you’ve gotten that one issue where you were trying to update the metadata on your youtube video, and it told you that you weren’t even signed in, when you already were and it pissed you off quite a bit. Well, you aren’t alone. The same thing goes when uploading via the mobile app (depending on phone manufacturer and/or software), where it fails numerous times with many glitches, errors or nonsense sayings.
Even when uploading from your desktop browser (firefox, microsoft/windows internet explorer, safari on mac, google chrome/chromium,opera, midori on linux or mac, etc.) or tablet browser and it fails with an error that it was rejected, regardless of what you tried, to get it to upload again and again and again. When it says the file type is invalid, that can drive you bonkers especially if it’s not invalid either. Then it’s the server’s fault. I have renamed a few videos to 3GP or MOV to even get it to work in that case, but it doesn’t always help.
Same for commenting, it gives you that error to try again (sometimes posting the comment anyways until your refresh to see the same thing as many times you tried again) and then give up. That can drive people up the wall.
What about monetising? I got the same damn issue, telling me I’m not authorised to even do so until I refresh the page and it says to login again. Big Bollocks! It’s lame. When will google fix that? Like seriously. Then again, they moved the earnings thing from adsense to youtube ANALtics, which removes earnings tracking by the hour to 24 hours. You had better find another big video site to have that feature if it uses adsense. Seriously, you better.
It’s bad enough dailymotion has that issue (deleting cookies in either case won’t do much justice) and videos get lost, aborted or scrapped, unless you refresh it before attempting. I usually upload three to four at a time in separate tabs (depending on uplink/upstream/upload speed) and it works out. Google (youtube) has the same issue now and I had to re-upload multiple videos to even get them on the net.
Also depending on your browser, using the mobile upload form (http://m.youtube.com/my_videos_upload) can kick some serious butt, that is, if you don’t mind videos uploading with irrelevant tags, but multiple at the same time instead of “one by one” with the desktop uploader, sure rocks better and harder. If your connection is bad, then it won’t do any justice. Period. It’ll just time out, all the time.
What about webcam uploads? Eh? I get this shooted “timed out” issue when recording, often in the middle and am forced to start over, after logging in AGAIN. Such a pain. And not to forget, it affects GNU/Linux users too. What about the webcam recorder blocking access to the microphone? That sure sucks. The videos are often muted and you won’t know until you preview or save them. Pity, much of a pity and a pain in the arse.
Oh well, that’s my rant. Thanks for reading. Hopefully I helped solve something.
